  Forward Slash

  Forward Slash is a new initiative by the company for our development team. It is basically a monthly internal hackathon event – aims to give opportunity to everyone in the team to learn something new, try new technology or improve their skills. It is some sort of a levelling-up process in a way, thus the word “forward”. I was the one who proposed the name

  For our first Forward Slash session, we had it in Fluentspace – an awesome co-working space in Kelana Jaya Mall. Other than the usual team members (Arzumy, Nguyen, Dion, me and Khailee), we were also joined by some other people including Rafie,  Javier and Syamey. It was a great 12 hours of learning, exploring and building experience. In fact, this is going to be one of hiring process, where the candidate will be asked to join the event in order to get to know them better.

  Not much on the stuff that I created that day. More on what I learnt. Finally I have a full day to spent on learning how to develope an iOS app. No one in my team know anything about iOS development. So, everything is from scratch. I played the developer role that day – not designing any single thing – just coding.

  At the end of the day, I believe I’ve learnt a lot and I’ve make myself comfortable with the process and XCode environment. My team manage to develop one app – although it is not 100% completed.

  Looking forward to the second round on Forward Slash next month.

  gaddafirusli.my redesigned

  I spent some time redesign gaddafirusli.my site – a  much needed update, I must say. I was using Cufon text replacement in the old version. What a shame. Go check out the new one. It is also optimized for mobile screen size (well, at least for iPhone screen size).

  Name cards

  I designed the new business cards for the SAYS.my team. After going through several iterations and changes here and there, we send them to print last week, and finally we got it yesterday afternoon. Each team / specific role has their own “mini logo” on the card (eg the “tools” icon to represent the product development team / technical team)

  

  The color is a bit different here, probably because of the lighting.

  Hello toys

  Since the death of my Nokia E71 one month ago, I decided to get an iPhone, or a smarter phone. So, hello iPhone 4! I got it during a DiGi roadshow in Sunway Pyramid last weekend, and I’m pretty happy with it so far. But to be honest, it is a really big distraction. I am trying not to look at it all the time.

  Later that week, I received my new Macbook Pro 13″. No, this is not entirely mine. It is from the company, as I already passed the 3 months period, thus giving me the permanent status. It is a good timing, as my almost-3-years-old white Macbook is no longer in a good condition.

  An awesome week indeed.

  I created a signage poster for our new office last week. I went with the typography vintage kind of style. Really love how it turned out. Although it is not being selected as the main signage as Khailee like my other design, he was kind enough to print this one as well for me.

  Last minute plan by Khailee to redesign the YouthAsia website. Spent one day with him finalizing the mockup and copywriting. Spent the next day coding the whole thing. Launched it in the evening. Go check it out. More stuff to be added into the site later.

  3 weeks passed by since I started working. I no longer have the time to even post any random stuff on this blog. This is not good.

  Anyway, 3 weeks. Wow, I barely feel anything. It has been an awesome experience working at YouthAsia – doing things I love to do. In addition to that, I’m surrounded by awesomely great people from various background – from Malaysia(duh!), Vietname, China, Germany to Lithuania and probably some other places as well. It is good to get along with them – at the office, or when we go out for lunch or dinner or even supper. The good thing is, I don’t even mind if I had to stay late at the office to finish some stuff. I don’t even feel like I am working at all. I feel like I’m at home doing things I like to do.  It is like I have two houses here.

  I’m grateful that everything seems to be working out for me over here.

  I planned to write this earlier, but I was busy staying up with the geeks: Izuddin, Amirul and Wafiq, launching the new version of KreativeThemes. Yes, while everyone was having fun at the 2011 countdown party, we were busy tinkering with the codes, handling the migration and adding new content; from 8pm up to 7am the next morning. Epic.
