This is the place where I like to post some weird and random stuff that I've created when I'm not busy doing my bit as a front end developer at an awesome Malaysian web startup company.

  • Adobe Fireworks: Pretty button

    18 Apr 2010 | 4

Here is a short tutorial for Adobe Fireworks (or Photoshop or whatever) users out there. In this tutorial, I will show you how to create a pretty looking button – something you can use for your website or anything.

First step is to create 3 rounded boxes. The width and height of the boxes have to be 2px less than one another – as shown in the figure below. The color palettes are also provided in the figure, so you can just use them as a guide for this tutorial.

    First step - 3 boxes

Second step is to put all these boxes together and aligning them on the center of the first box. By doing this, we will have two different outlines for the button.

  • Dichi Michi

    10 Apr 2010 | 1

    Dichi Michi

Dichi Michi, is another pretty cool local band that I discovered lately. I am not really a fan of  “genre” (because it can be very misleading), but I can say these guys are in the group of power pop or pop punk kind of music. Although you can see the word happy hardcore stated on their MySpace page, I don’t see anything ‘hardcore’ in their lyrics or music tho. Clothing, perhaps. My fav types of tshirts, by the way. Their EP, Sounds of New Hope, consist of 3 English songs and 1 Malay song. Personally, their songs are pretty fun and melodically enjoyable, unless you’re very particular with lyrical meaning and intelligence on each songs.

I wouldn’t deny that there are definitely influences from Pee Wee Gaskins in their lyrics and musical arrangement (and style) – but that doesn’t matter. All bands started with influences – screw those people who blame you for “sounding so much like <put other famous western band name here>”.

Anyhow, try to listen to them. I hope they will come out with more songs, with better recording, and perhaps will full album later.

Another related band is Nevada, but they don’t have any EP released yet.

  • Favorite Website: Emptees

    09 Apr 2010 | 9

I have some a lot of favorite websites that I visit regularly. I can spend hours on these websites, which is not a good habit for busy people like me. Ahem.

Emptees is one of them. It is community-generated website, specifically for designers and tee enthusiasts to share (as in show off), and talk about their ideas and designs for amazing tees. Simple concept, simple website design, but great community. It is a product of Indie Labs, which is also the owner of Big Cartel, my another favorite website (different story).

Going through the design one-by-one, admiring the details in the illustration (and wishing how I can draw something like that) and read all the feedbacks – great time waster. I’m not a tshirt designer, because I suck at drawing. But as some of you might know from my Twitter, and my old blog, I’m quite a crazy person when it comes to tshirts. Statistically, I’ve spend over USD500 on online tshirt in 2009. Yeah, that kind of crazy.

Check out their Tees of the Day to see daily selection of amazing tee designs. Too bad the RSS feed on that page is not working correctly.

  • Complicatedly fun

    06 Apr 2010 | 0

Just finished first paper test for Computer System Architecture – one of my favorite subject this semester. It is sometimes pretty complicated, but complicated in a fun way. Not like the other subject that shall not be mentioned here – complicated and confusing at all time.

  • It is iPad turn

    04 Apr 2010 | 3

Similar to what happened when Apple first released their iPhone, now it is iPad turn. Everyone is talking about it on the internet. Well, at the least fanboys.

When Steve Job announced the iPad, I was pretty dissapointed at the design, and the name. Come on.. iPad? Really? And the design is quite typical. Like a piece of something. But the only thing that changed my perspective on iPad is the software. The operating system in it. It just, amazingly breathtaking. Check out the video yourself. The one where Jonathan Ive in it. Amazing guy by the way.

If you’ve used Apple product – either iPod touch, iPhone, or even Mac – you’ll see the effort they put into the details of the software. The transitioning, what happen when you click here, to here, the animation between it – everything is considered. Click the home button on your iPhone, you can see the transition where the icons coming in from the four corners. Do it with other device, you can only see the home screen immediately, no effect to please you. Apple somehow put some lives in their software to act and react in a natural way.

Now that Apple started shipping this thing, a lot more reviews on the applications and the hardware itself can be seen around the tech blogs – Gizmodo for example. Some apps can be really really good looking. That is the major factor of attractiveness in iPad.

I’m not saying that I’m getting one, or not getting one – although there is a thread selling it on Low Yat (via @mohdismail). It is a great device – for those who really need or want to use it or just want to smash it. I’m just proud of the technology and the advancement in it.

    What do you think?

  • The box is alive

    Horizontical on flisterzb0x

Woah. What a tiring effort. I made another quick theme for flisterzb0x. Initially the plan is to create a horizontally scrolling theme. But due to some problems caused by lightbox, I decided to use a full-width layout instead. So, here it is now, after hours of coding and hours of re-uploading the content one by one, the flisterzb0x is back online. Personally, I think the theme looks better on wider screen. Check out this screenshot. And oh, scroll the page down and see some magic on the logo. Feedbacks are welcomed – except complaints about IE6 transparency and fixed position stuff. Screw IE6. And how bad WordPress handles image compression for the thumbnails. Boo.

New stuff to be added into the box soon. Now I better get back to some real works. Computer System Architecture test coming next week.

    Have fun guys!
